Outdoor electric fireplaces for a covered patio: which Amantii models are rated for it
A search for an outdoor electric fireplace for a covered patio runs into a problem fast. Many electric fireplaces, including several Amantii lines, are built and rated for indoor use only. Before choosing a model, it helps to know what an indoor/outdoor rating means in the manufacturer's own words, and then to see exactly which Amantii models are approved for it. Hogarazo is an authorized Amantii, Sierra Flame and Orivon dealer serving the 48 contiguous states from the Chicago area, and everything below is drawn from what Amantii states on its own product pages and its outdoor installation manual.
What an indoor/outdoor rating means on an electric fireplace
An electric fireplace does not vent, so an outdoor rating is not about combustion. It is about whether the housing and electronics are built to tolerate outdoor temperature swings and humidity, and whether the installation itself keeps direct water off the unit. Amantii's outdoor installation manual states the rule directly: "Select electric fireplaces are suitable for outdoor areas protected from direct water impingement." The manual also states the fireplace "shall not be installed in a standalone structure," meaning it has to be installed on the exterior of a main structure or building, not on a standalone one.
The manual sets a specific overhang rule: the roof or covering above the fireplace has to extend out from the wall by at least half the height of that roofline, measured from the base of the fireplace, and the overhang has to cover the fireplace from the front and from each side, not just directly overhead. Amantii's own example: if the roofline is 8 feet above the base of the fireplace, the overhang has to reach out at least 4 feet. The manual also requires the fireplace's listed mantel and combustible clearances to be maintained in addition to the overhang, and it states that all wiring connections to line power have to follow local building code. It does not itemize GFCI or a dedicated circuit as a blanket requirement; for the Panorama BI Slim and BI XtraSlim, Hogarazo's own product data does note that a dedicated 15 amp, 120-volt circuit is recommended, with the plug on the left side of the unit as shipped.
Several of Amantii's own lines are stated for indoor use only. Amantii's Fire & Ice Classic Edition insert, for one, is stated "indoor use only" on its own listing. A fireplace has to be one of the models Amantii names as outdoor-rated, and it has to be installed under a covering that meets the overhang rule above, before it can be used outdoors at all.
The Amantii models rated for outdoor use under cover
Six of the Amantii lines Hogarazo carries are compared below, each one a line Amantii states is approved for outdoor installation under a qualifying cover. The statements below are drawn from each model's own page on amantii.com.
| Model | Widths | What Amantii states about outdoor use | Hogarazo starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amantii SYMMETRY Bespoke | 34 in to 100 in (7 sizes) | "Certified for outdoor use under covered installations, including patios, porches, and overhangs" | Starting at $2,299 |
| Amantii Panorama BI Deep | 40 in to 88 in (5 sizes) | "Approved for indoor or outdoor applications. Overhang required for outdoor applications" | Starting at $3,199 |
| Amantii Panorama BI XtraSlim | 30 in to 60 in (4 sizes) | "Panorama fireplaces are rated for Indoor or Outdoor use" | Starting at $1,499 |
| Amantii Panorama BI Slim | 40 in to 88 in (5 sizes) | "All models are rated for either indoor or outdoor use"; the page adds "Cover MUST be purchased if installing outdoors" | Starting at $2,199 |
| Amantii TruView Bespoke | 45 in to 85 in (5 sizes, three-sided) | "Approved for Outdoor Installations," indoor/outdoor rated across all five sizes, with the general outdoor installation manual linked on the page | Starting at $3,399 |
| Amantii Cube Lumina | 19 5/8 in wide (one size, three-sided freestanding) | "Approved for indoor or outdoor applications" | Starting at $1,899 |
One detail in that table is worth reading closely before ordering. The Panorama BI Slim is rated for outdoor use, but its own product page adds that a cover has to be purchased separately for an outdoor install, a step the other five models here do not call out the same way.
For a closer look at how the Symmetry and Panorama BI families differ beyond outdoor rating, see the Symmetry vs. Panorama BI guide. For sizing across the TruView Bespoke's five widths, see the TruView Bespoke size guide, and for how the Bespoke line compares more broadly, see the Bespoke fireplace comparison.
What to expect from the heat outdoors
An electric fireplace heater is not a patio heater. Amantii rates most of its 120-volt models, including several of the outdoor-rated ones above, for roughly 400 to 500 square feet when used indoors, on a two-stage heater in the neighborhood of 1,500 watts and about 5,000 BTU. That figure assumes an enclosed room holding the warm air in. Outdoors, even under a covered patio, there are no walls to hold that heat, so the same heater will warm the people and furniture seated close to it rather than the whole patio. Treat the fireplace as a comfort feature for seating placed near the unit, not as a way to heat an open-air space the way a room gets heated. For more on how manufacturers rate heating coverage and what changes it, see the heating coverage guide.
On the TruView Bespoke, the 55-inch and larger sizes can be hardwired to 240 volts for higher heater output, per Amantii's own voltage chart for that model. That step increases wattage and BTU output, but the underlying physics does not change. Heat outdoors dissipates faster than heat indoors.
Electrical: 120-volt plug-in versus 240-volt hardwire
Every model in the table above ships ready to run on a standard 120-volt circuit. Amantii's voltage chart for the TruView Bespoke states the 45-inch size runs on 120 volts only, while the 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes can run on either 120 volts or 240 volts. For the Panorama BI Slim and BI XtraSlim, Hogarazo's own product data notes the units are thermostat hardwire-ready with the plug on the left side, and recommends a dedicated 15 amp, 120-volt circuit. Whichever path a given size and model supports, Amantii's outdoor installation manual states that all wiring connections to line power have to be done in accordance with local building code, which means the electrical requirements for any 240-volt hardwire run are set by the local jurisdiction. The manual does not spell out GFCI protection by name for outdoor installs, so that detail is set by the local code your electrician and inspector apply on site, not by Amantii.
Clearances and framing the covered wall
Combustible clearances, rough opening dimensions, and mantel clearances are set per model and per size in Amantii's individual spec sheets and manuals, not as one number across the outdoor-rated lineup. The outdoor installation manual requires the listed mantel and combustible clearances to be maintained in addition to the overhang rule described above, and those listed clearances are the ones in the fireplace's own manual. Before framing a covered wall for an outdoor install, the rough opening, the clearances, the electrical path, and the heater's front discharge should all be checked against the current manual for the specific size chosen, since a change in width on the same model line can change the rough opening and clearance numbers.
That is what Hogarazo's free project fit review checks: rough opening, clearances, electrical (120-volt or 240-volt), and heater discharge, verified against the current manual for the model and size under consideration.
